NewDems Celebrate Tom Suozzi’s Victory in the Special Election for New York’s Third Congressional District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the New Democrat Coalition Action Fund celebrated NewDem-endorsed candidate Tom Suozzi’s victory over extremist GOP candidate Mazi Pilip in the race for New York’s third congressional district. Suozzi previously represented Long Island in Congress for six years as a NewDem and has successfully taken this seat back from Republicans following the disgraced George Santos’ expulsion from Congress. This victory marks the fourth NewDem special election win since 2021. Previous NewDem special election victories include Shontel Brown (OH-11), Pat Ryan (NY-19), and Jennifer McClellan (VA-04).

New Democrat Coalition Chair Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on the victory:

“The NewDem Action Fund is thrilled to congratulate our friend and fellow New Dem Tom Suozzi on his impressive victory in this must-win special election.

“Tom ran a commonsense campaign focused on the issues that matter most to the American people, including lowering costs, addressing the challenges at our southern border, and improving safety and security in New York.

“Tom has always been an honest, hardworking leader who cares deeply about his community and constituents. In Congress, he fought hard to find common ground and break through the gridlock in DC by working across the aisle. There’s no doubt he will bring that same commitment to this closely divided House.

“Today’s victory not only shrinks Republicans’s already small majority, but it also brings Democrats one step closer to taking back the House. We are the majority makers – on to November!”
